Hello Fellow WCCC Member:
Can you believe that we are into the month of August already! On the other hand it also means that we are only a few weeks away from the start of our 2018-2019 WCCC season!
The WCCC Board of Directors has been working throughout the summer preparing the season schedule of events, working out the newly designed competition framework and putting together the 2018-2019 membership package.
Here are some items for you to be aware of:
Application & Dues Payment
You can be a great help by sending in your 2018-2019 application form and dues payment before our first meeting on September 5, 2018. Attached you will find the 2018-2019 application form. Fill it out completely and mail it with your check for the proper amount to:
Whaling City Camera Club
P.O. Box 70154
Dartmouth, MA 02747
We need a new application from each member each season to keep our membership records up to date and orderly as well as your signature on the disclaimer portion. By sending this in to our Membership Chairperson you can avoid the waiting lines at our first meeting in September and simply pick up your membership package on check in.
First Meeting for 2018 – 2019 Season
Our first WCCC meeting for the 2018-2019 season is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Dartmouth Housing Authority Community Room, 2 Anderson Way, Dartmouth, MA.
This is a very busy meeting with all our members getting together again formally and the distribution of a great deal of information regarding the planned events for the new season. In addition, we will be describing our newly organized club competitions.
The Board of Directors has created a new sub-committee under the Exhibitions & Competition Committee under the leadership of Sally Erickson. This committee is charged with finding opportunities for our members to display their work in venues across the South Coast and facilitating those exhibitions. The exhibition at the Fishing Heritage Center in New Bedford this past May-June was very successful and indicated the need to continue seeking exhibition sites.
Sally’s committee includes Elizabeth Antonell, Barbara Lawrence, Bernadette Costa and Brian Santerre. If you would like to help with this endeavor, please contact Sally.
Sally and her committee are working on finalizing details for a WCCC exhibition at the Westport Public Library in November. The exhibition is titled “Faces – Spaces – Places of Westport.” So find your favorite image of Westport, Massachusetts or go out there and shoot a great Westport image and be prepared to enter it in the exhibition. The prospectus and further details about the event will be ready for our first meeting in September. In the mean time, visit Westport and create that great image!
Although Vice President Joan Marie Proulx will continue in her duties as our club’s NECCC Representative, we have brought some much-needed assistance to the effort with the appointment of Christine Rosperich as our NECCC Competition Director and Margie Joseph as her assistant. Joan-Marie will be working with them both during the transition.
Art Drive - August 10 – 12, 2018 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
A great way to inspire the “fine art” in your photography! Visit the Art Drive website at: http://the-art-drive.com/about/ for maps, events, and an artists listing.
The Art Drive is intended to be a unique opportunity to visit working artists in their unusual and dramatic studio settings, spotted among the area’s villages, lovely farm land and sea coast.
The Art Drive, a juried studio tour, showcases creative and professional works by participating artists. Some of the area’s premier painters, ceramic artists, photographers, jewelers, fiber artists, woodworkers, and metal artists participate in this annual event. Each year members endeavor to improve and enhance the quality and diversity of work offered to visitors.
Art lovers and collectors alike will enjoy a great day trip, or weekend escape, while touring the historic Southcoast towns of Dartmouth and Westport. With only 15 miles separating the studios, visitors will enjoy a scenic drive through this picturesque area with ample time for a picnic lunch at the beach or dinner at one of the many area restaurants.
This is a website that our club subscribes to where we can post events our club would like to share with our members. The “meetups” we post are one of two types, FYI and Field Trips.
The For Your Information (FYI) is a means to inform you about events and places that might be of interest to you to photograph. When you RSVP to an FYI event, other members can see who might be planning to attend. This allows you the opportunity to contact those folks and see if you can “meetup” at the event or carpool to the event. You can do this right on the Meetup page by clicking on the member you wish to communicate with. Their page appears and there is an icon to click to send a message. Careful! Brian Santerre always appears as the host for the FYI only because he is responsible for posting the FYI’s. It does NOT mean that Brian is actually attending.
The Field Trip meetup is an event that is being organized by a WCCC club member who will be in attendance and may provide some direction to the photo opportunity, collect money when necessary, etc. etc. Some of you might remember the Field Trip to the Beach Volleyball Tournament last year with Jim Mahaney in attendance to help with your Sports Photography shoot.
It is always important for our members to RSVP our meetings and events on our Meetup page. This information is used for planning purposes and to let our sponsors know that we have great participation from our members. Sponsors like to have an idea of how many photographers are receiving their information when determining how worthwhile their sponsorship with our club can be to them.
We are very fortunate as a club to have so many of our members getting involved with our activities. I’m sure we all know that when you have many helping hands, the task is so much easier for all involved. Please consider helping in that regard by assisting with the many functions of your camera club. I’m sure you can find a club effort that could use your special talents. Talk with the committee chairperson for more information on each committee.
We have four standing committees in our club; Membership & Hospitality (Judy St. Pierre), Exhibitions & Contests (José Soler), Programs & Education (Brian Santerre) and Publicity & Website (Sally Erickson.)
Kelly Smith has had one of her photos selected to be in the First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union 2019 calendar! Selected photos will be on display at the First Citizens’ Facebook page for voting for the cover photo! From August 6 through August 10. Perhaps our fellow WCCC members could visit the Facebook page and see the entries! Nice work Kelly!
